Centennial Academy is looking for a qualified English Second Language (ESL) Teacher.
About
Centennial Academy
Located in Montréal, Québec, Centennial Academy is a leader in inclusive education and is dedicated to helping young people master their learning challenges, become autonomous and resilient learners, and graduate on time. Centennial Academy has an English-language sector and a French-language sector. We are early adopters of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a scientifically-driven educational framework that addresses the main barrier to learning: an inflexible, one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. UDL reaches all types of learners, by providing multiple means of representation, expression and engagement. We create a safe learning community. We use inclusive instructional practices. We adhere to systems and structures that support learning. We teach our students how to learn. We prepare them for life.
The
Opportunity
Teaching
at Centennial provides an opportunity to join a team of passionate people who
are committed to learning and to implementing the school’s mission and values
in everything we do. Our teachers play a key role in a school that is
recognized as a model for inclusive education in Quebec and in Canada. We value
our teachers and provide them with supportive feedback and regular professional
development informed by the latest research in the science of learning.
Teaching at Centennial is joining a learning community that offers a
life-changing educational experience to young people with learning challenges.
With the exception of the physical education teacher who must be bilingual, we
will consider strong candidates who may not be bilingual though we have a
preference for candidates who are sufficiently bilingual to teach across the
two sectors.
Teacher
Profile
The
successful Centennial teacher is a committed professional who shares our
vision, mission, values and approach. Our teachers are team players who solve
problems in a collaborative fashion, who are open to feedback and who are
empathetic and even-tempered. They follow school guidelines and implement best
practices established by the school, ensuring that students are treated in a
respectful and consistent fashion. They have the confidence needed to ask for
support and to bring forth issues that need the attention of the entire
pedagogical team. They are lifelong learners who value professional development
opportunities.
